  • Joining different forums is a major step forward in our efforts to promote the uptake of mobile data solutions.

Brand is a co-founder of the Mobile Management Forum with silver membership status. Brand's Managing Director - Martin Kendrick is the chairman of the 'session management' sub group.

The Mobile Management Forum was formed as the result of a six month study by The Open Group on the key challenges facing early corporate and government adopters of wireless devices and applications. The research identified five major challenges which need to be resolved to accelerate the marketplace and which the Forum will begin addressing as its first order of business. The five challenges are as follows:

    • Session management of wireless devices and applications
    • Data Synchronisation of mobile devices and networked data
    • Co-existence of various wireless Local Area Network (LAN) and emerging wireless Personal Area Network (PAN) technologies
    • Authentication, authorisation and accounting requirements related to wireless data devices and applications
    • Wireless device-independent content origination.

Brand is a full member of the Mobile Data Association and Martin Kendrick, Brand's Managing Director, is part of the executive committee.

The Mobile Data Association (MDA) was established in 1994 to increase awareness of mobile data amongst users and their advisers. The MDA acts as a focal point for its members (vendors and users) and outside parties interested in knowing more about the industry. With over 50 members, the MDA actively seeks to promote understanding about mobile data and its applications to a range of audiences including prospective customers, VARs and system integrators. It also provides an informal interface for its members to communicate with Government Bodies including the DTI, the Radiocommunications Agency and Oftel.
