Brand and Orange to Deliver High Speed Mobile Data

Brand Communications Limited and Orange, the UK’s most advanced digital mobile network, demonstrated mobile LAN access at the Network Telecom 99 show in Birmingham

The service, presently operating at 9.6kb/s, will in the future take advantage of Orange’s new high speed data service which launches this summer and allows customers to access corporate networks at 28.8Kb/s. The available data speeds are three times faster than the existing mobile data service, matching speeds offered by the majority of fixed-line modems.

Orange has already been successfully operating the high speed circuit switched data (HSCSD) service in its testbed environment, and Brand’s products have enhanced HSCSD by adding mobile LAN/internet connectivity, spoofing, compression, call resilience and security. The high speed data service that will be available from Orange enables significantly faster download times, while session management via Brand provides true LAN connectivity in a mobile environment.

Brand is the world’s leading supplier of remote LAN access and internet access via GSM and has already proved to customers how viable today’s GSM data rates of 9.6kb/s can be. Now that HSCSD is to offer data speeds of 28.8kb/s, customers will enjoy significantly higher throughputs. Brand and Orange are well positioned to deliver complete HSCSD solutions to satisfy the latent demand for higher bandwidth and better applications.

This is another industry first from Orange. Following an investment of over £10 million, the rollout of the new service will ensure that Orange is the first UK mobile operator to offer high speed data rates this side of the millennium.
