  • What do I need to use the Apollo Emulator over GSM ?

In order to use the Apollo Emulator over GSM you will need a Windows 95/98/NT PC or CE device, a compatible data device, a compatible mobile phone, and a data enabled SIM.

What does data enabled mean ?

When you are provided with a mobile phone, it is normally only enabled for voice. You will need to contact your service provider and request that your SIM is data enabled. You will be given a separate telephone number for data.

    What devices are approved ?

As new phone and data devices become available the list of approved devices is updated. The most recent list (modems.ini) can be downloaded from the drivers area of this web site.

If your device is not on the approved list then please call or email the Brand technical support team (support@brandcomms.com) and they will suggest a setup string to get your device working.

My installation did not complete successfully ?

If installation did not complete successfully then you will be required to uninstall the product, reboot the computer and then reinstall from scratch. If the installation does not complete the second time, please contact or email the Brand technical support desk.

During installation I am asked for a serial number, where do I get this from ?

You will be asked for your serial number during installation. This number is unique and must not be copied to any other machine running the Apollo Emulator. If machines run the same serial numbers then all users with the same serial number will be logged out of the server automatically. If you do not have a serial number please contact the person who gave you the installation disks, or please refer back to your supplier.

During installation my machine asks me to copy some files what should I do ?

After the Brand installation has run the machine will need to copy some files from the Windows 95/98/NT CD. You will need to insert the Windows CD or path the setup program to the Windows "cab" files directory so that any additional files required maybe copied to your hard disk so that the software can run correctly.

I want to use the suspend mode of the laptop whilst using the Apollo Emulator ?

Unfortunately a number of data devices do not reliably come out of suspend mode. We therefore do not recommend the use of suspend mode with the Apollo Emulator.

When I log in nothing happens on the phone ?

If you are experiencing problems whilst using the Apollo Emulator please download the Apollo Emulator 2 troubleshooting guide, which will help and guide you through the steps of installing the product before contacting the Brand technical support desk.

My calls keep dropping whilst transferring data ?

This is generally caused by poor coverage, do not worry. The Apollo Emulator will recover from these problems and re-dial when the phone is back in coverage again.

Why is would I prefix my telephone number with a + ?

This is the international format for GSM numbers. Using the + and country code followed by the number will allow you to go to any other country and dial into your system without making any configuration changes.

In the UK the format for this is +44 (drop the 0 from the area code) (area code) (number)

    So to call 01480 442100, this would be +44 1480 442100

What is the username I need ?

Your IT manager, or Service Provider will be able to give you your user name and password. This is not necessarily the same as your network or PC user name.

Why does my machine boot up and say "Unable to Determine which Hardware Profile" ?

In order to eliminate potential problems with duplicate connections to the same networks, the Apollo Emulator installation automatically creates a new Hardware Profile on your PC, which disables any existing network or dial up adapters and protects your original configuration.

What is the two networked computers icon on the taskbar ?

The taskbar icon with two computers shows you what the Apollo Emulator is doing. It has a number of possible states. Logged out - icon has a black cross through it. Spoofed - icon has a yellow lightning strike through it. Transferring data - icon has a combination of Red and Green screens on the computers. This icon also gives you access to the logon window and statistic screens.

What is spoofing across GSM ?

Spoofing across GSM - the Apollo solution disconnects the phone line after the transfer or receiving of information, but to the user the system is transparent, and looks as if it is still on line and connected. Saving you money as you will only be connected on line when there is information to be transferred or received.
